Brings Plenty recognized for significant contributions to Western Heritage

Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe member Mo Brings Plenty was honored April 12-13 in Oklahoma City, OK, at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum with the organization’s Horizon Award. Brings Plenty, the son of Enoch and Della Brings Plenty of Eagle Butte, was recognized as part of the heritage museum’s Western Heritage Awards and Hall of Fame weekend.

Work to begin on Hwy. 23 project in Corson County

Work is scheduled to get underway Monday, April 22, on U.S. Highway 12 in Corson County between Morristown and Watauga, which involves a nine and one-half mile project, including the replacement of the narrow bridge one mile east of Morristown.

Isabel election voter turnout hits 38 percent

A two-candidate race for a seat on the Isabel Board of Trustees - just the community’s second election contest in 25 years - drew nearly 40 percent of the town’s eligible voters to the polls last Tuesday, April 9.

CRYP purchases land adjacent to Bear Butte

The Cheyenne River Youth Project has purchased a nearly 40-acre tract of land adjacent to Bear Butte State Park in Meade County, South Dakota. The 35-year-old, Native-led, nonprofit organization will conduct a private dedication ceremony with youth from the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation on Friday, Apr. 26.

That doesn’t seem as prevalent these days, as there has been a steady dose of sobering discussions over break-evens, cash flows, working capital and other farm economics the past few months. It appears most producers and ag lenders have a good grasp on the situation, especially if a detailed cash flow projection was compiled in early 2024.

Urban Scholarship deadline is June 1

While April 15 was the deadline for Timber Lake High School seniors to apply for the Urban Scholarships, a new deadline of June 1 is announced for applications for the Urban Community Scholarships. Both are sponsored by the Timber Lake & Area Historical Society, which will give four $3000 awards this year.
