New Sioux Falls elementary school to be named after CRST matriarch

A new elementary school opening in Sioux Falls in the fall of 2025 will bear the name of Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal elder, politician, nurse and military veteran Marcella LeBeau. The name - announced Monday, April 22 - was chosen by a committee of students, parents, teachers, administrators, community members, and one school board representative.

200 Club Drawings

The Sacred Heart Parish Church of Dupree held their monthly 200 Club drawings on Sunday, April 21 following Holy Mass and evening supper at the church hall. Peggy McLellan of Eagle Butte won two drawings, a $50 and a $25. Ramon Birkeland of Dupree also won $50 and $25. Dan Schrempp of Eagle Butte won $25. Addie Neigel of Eagle Butte won $25.

Dupree FFA recent results of judging competition

The Dupree FFA, under the advisement of Doug Hofer, has been busy learning about judging and competing and they’ve been to a few events this spring. Recently they competed at Sturgis and here are the results: The DHS Ag Mechanics team did exceptionally well as they placed fourth overall. Individually, their placings were as follows: Maverick Lemke-4th place, Alan Lemke-9th, Bobby Brewer-13th, Kwinsy Russell-18th, Tyler Stambach-20th, Matthew Lemke-22nd, Gaby LaPlante-24th, and Michael Donovan-32nd.

The Dupree School would like to present their JH/HS March Students of the Month. The honorees are (L-R) Matthew Lemke, who is a senior at DHS, and Chris Baker, who is in the seventh grade. JH/HS Principal Russell Budmayr presented each of the students with a $20 gift card to the Lakota Thrifty Mart. The 7th-12th grade staff nominate students that they feel strongly represent characteristics of good role models (leadership, citizenship, positive behaviors, and good attendance and academic work) and the students that receive the most votes from the staff are acknowledged with the honor.

‘Chopped’ winners named

With the cost of groceries these days, and the distance that many people live from the grocery store, folks often have to come up with something for supper based on what’s left in the kitchen/fridge, Therefore, the Chopped contest, loosely based on the Food Network show CHOPPED, has continued to be an annual event for Ziebach Co. 4-Hers.
