Hertel fourth at Faulkton Invite

McLaughlin-Timber Lake ‘s Evan Hertel captured fourth place honors in the 113-pound division at the Faulkton Wrestling Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11, going 2-2 overall in matches.

Hertel, a sophomore, won a fall at the 5:07 mark for a 4-2 win over Logan Foster of Clark/Willow Lake in quarterfinal action but lost by fall to Holden Hawkins of Sisseton 31 seconds into the semifinal round. In the consolation semifinals he won an 11-4 decision over Taylor Merkel of Clark.Willow Lake and competing against Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County for third place honors, Hertel lost by fall at 2:28 of the match.

Other Mustangs competing at the meet were Ethan Ward at 96 pounds; Jade Hertel Jr. at 106 pounds; and Carmine Crow Ghost at 132. Ward and Crow Ghost both went 0-2 in their respective matches while Jade Hertel Jr. claimed an 11-8 decision over Trevor Laschkewhitsch of Sunshine Bible Academy in the first round of his weight class before dropping two matches by fall.

Sandquist fourth for Mobridge-Pollock

Mark Sandquist of Trail City, a member of the Mobridge-Pollock wrestling team, won fourth place in the 120 pound division at the Faulkton Invitational.

Sandquist dropped a 13-2 major decision to John Yonker of Hamlin-Castlewood in the quarterfinals but rebounded to win a fall at 2:25 of his consolation round meeting with Kenyon Kuiper of Kimball-Whilte Lake-Platte-Geddes. He followed that with an 11-0 major decision over Phillip Holsing of Faulkton and captured a win in the consolation semifinals with a 12-6 decision over Brady Unser of Ipswich-Leola.

Sandquist ended up meeting Yonker again for third place in the weight class, losing by fall at 1:42 of the match. Other Mobridge-Pollock medalists were Wyatt Wientjes, third place at 126 pounds; Day Day Jeminger, third place, 160 pounds; Jesse Bears Heart, fourth place, 182 pounds.
