A couple of weeks ago the Rodeo Roundup reported that newlycrowned Western States Ranch Rodeo Association (WSRRA) bronc riding world champion Cinch Hebb of Eagle Butte will be joining the PRCA for the 2023 season to compete in saddle broncs.
Another Eagle Butte ranch bronc rider, Owen Garreaux, will be joining Hebb in the step up to the PRCA. Garreaux finished fourth overall at the WSRRA World Finals last month.
Before they go, however, don’t be surprised if you see Hebb and Garreaux in the line-up at the 2023 Broncs for Breakfast on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at the James Kjerstad Event Center on the Central States Fairgrounds in Rapid City.
The event will feature 32 of the nation’s top ranch bronc riders with the top 8 advancing to the short-go. Broncs for Breakfast is sanctioned by the WSRRA and carries a total purse of $6,000.
SDRA meeting and banquet postponed
Last week’s three-day blizzard resulted in the Indian National Finals Rodeo (INFR) event planned Dec. 15-17 in Rapid City being cancelled. In addition, the South Dakota Rodeo Association (SDRA) postponed its annual meeting and awards banquet.
A new date will be posted on the association’s website and Facebook page when it’s re-scheduled.
Garrett third at Chase Hawk Memorial Rodeo
Shorty Garrett of Dupree and Chance Schott of McLaughlin were among those finishing in the money at the Chase Hawk Memorial Rough Stock Rodeo in Billings, MT, on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Garrett finished third in saddle bronc riding by scoring 87 points on Powder River Rodeo bronc Miss Valley to win $4,786 while Schott tied for eighth place in bull riding with an 80.5 point spin on Muddy Creek Pro Rodeo entry Gold Metal for $425.
Badlands Circuit adds bareback option
The PRCA’s Badlands Circuit is starting the Horizon Permit Bareback Riding in 2023.
Rodeos on the circuit will have the option of adding an extra $500 for permit bareback riders and the circuit will match that amount for an extra side pot of $1,000 for any permit bareback riders, regardless of what circuit they claim.
