Stephan Howard, 34, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe member of Minneapolis, MN, passed away September 21, 2025 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, with his mother at his side.
Funeral services were held September 26, 2025, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial was in Bear Creek Cemetery.
Stephan Joseph Howard was born on June 26, 1991 in Eagle Butte to Ivan Laven Howard and Marlis Ruth Different Horse. He attended South High School in Minneapolis.
Stephan loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed music, dancing, and being surrounded by people.
He is survived by his partner, Adam Flesher; his son, Jacob; mother Marlis Different Horse; brothers Ryan Howard, Darrien Different Horse, Gabriel Luis-Alonso, Jose Luis-Alonso, and Laurent Howard; sisters Amber Howard, Elizabeth Howard, Katherine Howard, Anna Different Horse, Laurena Carrizales Guerrero, Alejandra Luis Alenso, Chantel Rebles, and Lakita Howard; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, friends, and extended family.
Stephan was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Howard; brother, Ivan Howard Jr.; maternal grandparents Samuel Different Horse and Anna Corrine Charger; paternal grandparents Vern Howard and Corrine Cecelia Littleton; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
