Samuel Moran, 43, of Eagle Butte passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Monument Health in Rapid City.
Funeral services were held October 18, 2025 at the CRST Bingo Hall in Eagle Butte. Burial was in the St. Luke’s Episcopal Cemetery at Iron Lightning.
Samuel was born on January 8, 1982, in Rapid City to Stanley Moran and Renee West. He grew up in the Eagle Butte area, where he attended elementary school. He later went on to Black Hills Children’s Home and completed his high school education in Ute, UT.
After finishing school, Samuel returned to South Dakota and settled in Rapid City. He worked as a handyman, taking on construction, roofing, and masonry jobs throughout the area.
Samuel was a talented artist who created many beautiful paintings and drawings. He loved spending time with friends and was always willing to lend a hand. Children were naturally drawn to him, and he often spent time babysitting for family and friends. One of Samuel’s greatest qualities was making friends wherever he went as well as his sense of humor and the ability to make people laugh.
Samuel is survived by his parents; siblings Christie Thundershield, Marcus (Eunice) Hollowhorn Sr., Erin West, Sianna, Jesse, Corey, Chalsey, and Stancee Moran; nieces and nephews: Chenoa, Cha’e, Baby Ty, Emmett, Tallyn, Tigh, Wo’niya, Marcus Jr., Sylis, Syrus, Mason, Soloman, Aliz’e, Alonzo, Leland, Antwan, A’zyn, L’lyn, Anpo, Rene’zmae, Eunice, Imaginn, Winnie, Taijah, J’Cee, Jevan, Julian, Jesse Jr., Silvia, Kyla, Skylar, Lauren, Nicholas Jr., Keon, Ronnald, Mahki, Mahli, and Ariana; aunts Audrey (John) Houser, Nancy West, Carmen Chase, and Verna Moran; uncles Dave West, and Roderick and Ed Moran; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Eva Curley Bear Eagle and Ruben “Buck” West; paternal grandparents Stanley P. Moran and Catherine (Dog Eagle) Moran; sister Maura Hollow Horn; brother Jerry Curley; uncle Arthur Moran; and aunts Olivia Bear Ribs and Cece Baumeister.
