Roland Miner Jr., 65, of Eagle Butte, passed away June 26, 2024, at Monument Health, Rapid City.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6, 2024, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial followed in Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery at White Horse.
Roland Wilfred Miner Jr. was born February 14, 1959, to Cora Mae (Blue Coat) Marshall and Roland Miner Sr. in Eagle Butte. He lived in Eagle Butte most of his life. He graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School and went on to college at United Tribes in Bismarck, ND.
Roland almost made a career in acting in Native American movies but decided to come home after Dances with Wolves. What he loved most was visiting with family and friends.
Roland is survived by daughters, Chasity (Cap) Miner, Charity (Nicolas) Miner, and Natasha (Wallace) Miner-Rooks, all of Eagle Butte, Lorraine (Donald) Miner-Whiteman of Spearfish, Cheyenne Miner of El Paso, TX, and Sharon Miner of Dupree; sons, Roland Miner III of Sioux Falls, Kevin Eagle Heart of Rapid City, Dillon and Devin Miner of El Paso, TX; sister, Gayle Dupris of Eagle Butte; auntie, Margie Clown; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sharon Miner; brothers Gary Miner, Robert “Bob” Lofton, Alfred “JB” Lofton, and Dino Lofton; son John Miner; grandparents Lorraine and Walter Miner and Lillian and Robert Blue Coat; and granddaughter Christian Mexican.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
