Pauline Berens was born on January 26, 1934 in Trail City to Michael and Catherine (Thomas) Aberle. She attended Hoffert School in Trail City. She attended school in Mobridge until the 10th grade when she had to help her mother with the family of 13.
On January 7, 1953 Pauline married Eddie Berens at St. Joseph’s Church in Mobridge. Pauline and Eddie began their own farming and livestock operation in rural Selby. While Eddie was farming Pauline raised their family of eight. She had a lovely life together with Eddie.
Pauline always had a big garden on the farm and kept herself busy cooking, sewing the girls’ clothes for school, crocheting, bowling, playing cards, riding with Eddie in the tractor and combine and being in the Extension Club. Pauline also loved singing in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church choir. What Pauline enjoyed the most was spoiling her grandchildren.
Pauline is survived by her children: Ron (Pat) Berens of North Carolina, Sylvia (Tom) Miklos of Selby, Mary (Kevin) Holgard of Glenham, Jean (Bob) Silva of Spark, NV, Mark (Linda) Berens of Colorado Springs, CO, Jason (Laurel) Berens of Selby and Marlin (Jess) Berens of Glenham; 20 grandchildren and many greatgrandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; brothers Leo Aberle and Stephen Aberle; and sisters Lucille (Orvil) Kuehl and Patricia Aberle.
