Celebration of Life Services for Nyla Opp, 77, of Timber Lake was held October 30, 2024 at New Hope Church in Timber Lake. Burial was in the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Nyla passed away Monday, October 21, 2024, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.
Nyla Sample was born August 21, 1947 in Bridgewater, the seventh of eight children born to Clarence and Garnet (Gardner) Sample. Nyla went to grade school and high school in Bridgewater. In 1964, she married Darrel Ulmer. In 1970, they adopted their only son, Wahnel. In 1980, they divorced. In 1990, she married David Opp of Timber Lake. David died in 2002 from cancer.
Through the years Nyla worked at various places, including Kmart in Mitchell for over nine years. In Timber Lake, she helped David on the ranch and started the Apple Tree Cottage with the help of her husband and a friend. In 2010, she closed the shop and retired.
Nyla accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the age of 23. She spent the rest of her life sharing her faith. She was a member and active in New Hope Church in Timber Lake.
Nyla is joyfully reunited with her husband, David Opp; her parents, Clarence and Garnet Sample; and her five brothers, Wally, Don, George, Jack and Stanley Sample.
Those who mourn her loss are her son, Wahnel (Wendy), and grandsons Alex and Dawson of Menno; four stepchildren, Colleen and Albert Larson and family of Fort Worth, TX, Steve and Raeann Opp and family of Gregory, Janice and Claude Roebuck and family of Sioux Fall, and Harriet Beth Opp of Mobridge; and two sisters, Garnet Klueber and Sherri (Wayne) Houtcooper.
