Mary Gage was born to George and Myrtle (Diermier) Gage on September 14, 1946 in Dupree. She passed away at age 78 on March 3, 2025 at Heartland Assisted Living in Spearfish.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 14 at the Dupree Cemetery followed by a meal at Pioneer Hall in Dupree. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Growing up Mary lived on the ranch south of Dupree with her mother Myrtle, her brother Harold, her uncle Ralph Diermier and grandparents. In 1952, Mary moved to Dupree. She attended all 12 years of school and graduated in 1964 along with her ten classmates. Mary had many fond memories of those years especially relating to their senior class trip to Canada. After graduation, Mary joined the work force. She held jobs at the grocery store for Hollis Barker, Farmers State Bank, and with Social Services in Dupree and Eagle Butte.
Mary enjoyed traveling to various places including California, Arkansas, and Oklahoma to visit family and friends. When the car left town, she was always ready to jump in for an adventure. Mary and her travel buddies enjoyed sight-seeing in Medora, ND and the Black Hills. While on their trips, they enjoyed concerts and casinos.
Mary was actively involved in the Dupree community. She held various offices in the Dupree Community Club and the Alumni Association.
Some of her favorite activities included the Women’s Red Hat Society, bowling leagues, and bridge club. Mary particularly enjoyed attending Dupree area summer celebrations of rodeos, parades, and craft shows.
Family meant a great deal to Mary. She was happy to step in and take care of her aging mother and aunt Lousie Budahl. She took great pride in her Uncle Ralph’s military service. Mary enjoyed spending time at horse and livestock sales with her Uncle Ralph and brother Harold. Mary enjoyed the ranch life from helping with brandings to checking cattle and crops.
Mary is preceded in death by her brother Harold, her father George Gage, her mother Myrtle Gage, her uncle Ralph Diermier, and her grandparents.
Mary is survived by her sister-inlaw Margaret, her nephew Casey, her niece Stacee, and a number of greatnieces and nephews.
