Lois Louise Myers-Pelton passed away at the age of 83 on March 24, 2026 in Aberdeen.

Born on August 17, 1942, to Charley and Louise Myers in Mobridge, Lois was the fifth of six children. Raised on the family farm in Timber Lake, she developed a foundation of hard work that would define her diverse and distinguished career.

On June 21, 1959, Lois married Charles Leonard Pelton at the Timber Lake Baptist Church. The first 17 years of their marriage were spent exploring new places before they eventually settled in Aberdeen.

Lois was a lifelong learner, earning a Bachelor’s in Art History and a Master’s in Psychology from Northern State College, followed by a Juris Doctorate. Her thirst for adventure took her to the skies, where she became a licensed pilot.

Lois was deeply committed to her community and a tireless advocate for others. She spent years at the Women’s Resource Center, where she fought for women’s rights with the same tenacity she applied to every area of her life. Her creative side was equally vibrant; she was a passionate artist who found joy in painting and pottery, and she took every opportunity to travel and see the world.

She is survived by her siblings, Loretta Olson and Lyle Myers; her three children: Cynthia, Charles III (Monica), and Christine; five grandchildren: Heath (Tarryn), Kaytlin (Colby), Erik (Angela), Alex (Shaylee), and Megan; and seven great-grandchildren: Dorian, Emmi, Aidric, Bennett, Avery, Yennefer, and Ayla.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Aberdeen Area Arts Council or the Aberdeen Community Theatre continuing Lois’s legacy of supporting the arts and education within the community she loved
