Joseph “Jody” Totton

November 19, 1957 – May 21, 2024

Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph “Jody” Totton, 66, of Eagle Butte and Promise was held Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mobridge. Inurnment will be at St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery in Promise at a later date.

Jody passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

Jody was a proud father of eight children.

He was born in Rosebud, in 1957 to Arlene Bordeaux and Edward “Sonny” Budnek, and was later adopted by his grandmother, Violet Totton. Jody attended school at Todd County where he enjoyed sports and graduated from high school in 1976. He then found his true talent in operating heavy equipment and construction.

Jody reunited with a high school love, Janet Swan, and they married in 1980. They had three children together. He later found the love of his life, Nancy Ducheneaux (Totton), in 1995. They married a year later moving closer to family and building a happy life together in Promise. They had one child together. Jody cared for his family by owning and operating a trucking business for a short period of time and then returned to construction work.

Jody was a devoted loving father and father figure to Nikki Whipple, Will Burritt, Tanya Kindle, Marshall Totton, Jade Ducheneaux, Patsy Totton, Chris Totton, and AJ Totton. He was also a very caring and loving grandfather of 22 grandchildren. He showed this devotion and love by calling family and friends to check in, tell many memories, and share his life stories. Jody enjoyed playing games, particularly Yahtzee and the circle game. (Finger game, if you knew him, you know the game).

Jody is survived by his children: Nikki Whipple (Alec), Will Burritt (Michelle), Tanya Totton (Bret), Marshall Totton(Sabra), Jade Ducheneaux, Patsy Totton (Aaron, Chris Totton (Lindsey), and AJ Totton (Tomi); his grandchildren: Rhea, Chris, Luca, Alex, Gerald, Marissa, Hailey, Brendan, Caleb, Brinley, Violet, Lily, Moses, Kateri, Jeslyn, Kyleigh, Devin, Braxton, Sophia, Kayden, Colson, and Brynleigh; his siblings: Patty Bordeaux Nelson, Laurie Sharp Butte Plummer, Phyllis White Shield, Rodney James Bordeaux, James “Jim” Bordeaux, Victor Rivera, Ralph “Peppy” Edward Rivera, and Conrad “Stoney” Good Voice.

Jody is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Totton; grandmother/ adopted mother, Violet Totton; his parents, Arlene Bordeaux and Edward “Sonny” Budnek; and his siblings, Gerald Good Voice, Edward “Eddie” Rattling Leaf, Darla Good Voice, and Lisa Havemann.
