December 14, 1939 – March 23, 2024

Helen Bernice Crow, 84, of Eagle Butte passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in the Green Grass Cemetery. A wake will be at 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at the church with a procession from the 4-mile junction at 4:00 p.m.

Helen Bernice Crow was born at the Old Cheyenne Agency on December 14,1939, to Eunice Slides Off and Bernard Shooter. Bernice joined one brother, Sidney Herman Andrew and one adopted brother, Lloyd Janis.

Helen grew up in Isabel and Thunder But t e . She loved to ride horses, fish, and spend all the time she could with her grandkids. She had one son, Leslie Boyd Shooter, an adopted son, Darren Shooter, and a daughter, Eunice Rose (Marcus) Hollow Horn. Helen also had numerous other sons that she loved like her own: Ben Red Horse, Roland Fielder, Chuck Allen Brown, and Tallie Fielder. Helen also raised an adopted granddaughter, Dorice Reynolds, until her health started to fail.

Bernice worked for over 30 years serving as an emergency medical technician, community health representative, and optometrist assistant.

Bernice married Lawrence Crow on December 9,1985. They loved to go thrifting and rummaging.

Bernice retired in 1998 to stay home and babysit her grandchildren.

Bernice took pride in her family. She did everything possible to make her family’s life easier. She taught her children and grandchildren to be independent, strong, and to love one another more than anything.

Bernice had numerous medical issues, including cancer (five times), a heart attack, arthritis, and diabetes, but every day, she got up and worked, never complaining.

Honored to have been blessed to share her life are her daughter, Eunice (Marcus) Hollow Horn; grandsons: Cameron Howe, Marcus Jr., Sylis, Syrus, Mason, and Solomon Leslie, Jacob (Hillary) Shooter, Josh (Brittney) Shooter, and Leon Leslie; granddaughters: Jennifer Shooter, Lanice Rose Shooter, Shatoya Shooter, Dawnelle Garreau, and Keanna Haskell; great-grandchildren: Latoya, Leah, and Westin Jordan, Jacob Jr., Shooter, Layton Shooter, Madisynn Shooter, Maleiah Shooter, Shi’ann Garreaux, K’Lea Garreaux, Taycen Peniska, Casdyn Peniska, Lebron Shooter, Taydon Shooter and Adelaide Shooter; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Bernice was preceded in death by her son, Leslie Boyd Shooter; her parents; husband, Lawrence Rufus Crow; sisters Marie Brave Heart and Ada Red Horse; brothers Lloyd Janis and Sidney Herman Andrew Shooter; and great-grandchildren Lila Storm Jordan and Larry Richard Jordan.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
