Gail Theo Reed, 79, passed away at her home on July 22, 2025.
Gail was born August 30, 1946 in Mobridge to Ted and Leota (Clevenger) Sogge and was later joined by three brothers – Leo, Garry, and Randy. She started her life growing up on ranches near Trail City, McLaughlin, and west of Mobridge on the Missouri River and attended school through the 8th grade in Mobridge.
In 1960 she moved with her parents to Fairburn to a ranch along French Creek. Gail attended her first two years of high school in Rapid City then transferred to Hot Springs High School, graduating in 1964. She attended South Dakota State University in Brookings.
In 1965 she married Tim Conrad. They moved to Mississippi and also lived in Tennessee and Arkansas. While living in Mississippi their two children, Virginia and John, were born. In 1972 they moved to the Hart Ranch near Hermosa. They divorced in 1979, and Gail moved her family to Rapid City where she continued her education, graduating from National College.
She founded a CPA firm and taught at National College. With her CPA business, she loved seeing new businesses start and succeed.
On July 4, 1981, she married Thomas Reed.
In 2003 Tom and Gail moved to the ranch where she grew up near Fairburn and built a new home, where she spent her remaining years enjoying the scenery and quiet atmosphere of the Black Hills.
Gail had many skills and hobbies including playing the piano for several churches, working at Shakey’s Pizza, the Hermosa Hillbillies, sewing, styling hair, gardening, remodeling homes, carpentry, woodworking, restoring/ refinishing old furniture, photography, canning, reading, collecting rocks, and learning new things. She loved traveling and was always ready for a trip. She traveled to all 50 states and numerous countries; she and Tom also enjoyed going on cruises.
She held many positions with civic organizations, Church Response, and the Women’s Network. She was youth leader, Sunday School teacher, Ladies auxiliary and church secretary. Gail was a lady with deep Christian faith and practiced her Christianity daily.
Gail is survived by her husband, Tom Reed; daughter Virginia (Robert) Bradford of Rapid City; son John (Deb) Conrad of Fairburn; grandchildren Keara (Justin) Ashley, Dominic (Katelyn) Bradford, Trevor Bradford, Kayton (Jessica) Wilson, Jazzy Potter, Shyler (Heather) French and Bohnam Conrad; 10 greatgrandchildren; brothers Leo Sogge of Fairburn, Gary (Lynn) Sogge of Blackhawk and Randy (Peggy) Sogge Hill City; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, Drew and Destiny and numerous cousins.
Burial was July 25, 2025, at Silver City Cemetery at Silver City. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
