December 3, 1961 – February 13, 2025
Frank J. Mound, 63, of White Horse passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, Pierre.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, White Horse. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Frank James Mound was born at the Cheyenne Agency on December 3, 1961 to Orsen Mound Sr. and Delilah Thompson. He grew up in the country with his siblings.
Frank joined the United States Army and when he left, he met his wife, Wendy Girton. They welcomed their children James, Alex, Phillip, Gabrielle, Sara, and Jayden. The family moved around and made a home wherever they went.
Frank was a simple and humble man. Not many can tell you a time they saw him upset. His smile was a giveaway and if you knew him you knew he had a joke ready. He traveled and loved to cook for his family. He enjoyed bronc riding and had plenty of stories of all his events. If you had a chance to sit and talk with Frank, he would tell you his many tales. He had one for every event in life and family occasion. The best ones were the fishing stories; he loved to fish.
Frank James Mound was a movie star. He acted in “Dances with Wolves” and “Crazy Horse”, and he had a video to prove it and would pause the exact moment when you could see him on screen.
Frank is survived by his children: James Mound, Alex Mound, Phillip Mound, Gabrielle Smith, Sara Mound, and Jayden Mound; grandchildren Jayda, Daisha, Nevin, Neo, Natalee, Kellan, Avery, Baby Girl, Alaina, Gage, Jerek, Bristol, Jersey Jay, Adeline, Aubrielle, Jude, Evelyn, Owen, and Oaklynn; siblings Janielle and Alvin Mound, Richard, Mary, Kermit and Nell Miner; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Donna Weishaar; brothers Orsen Jr. and Andrew Mound; and uncle Alex Thompson.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
