Emmett Schlene (Red) Hayes, 57, passed away on April 11, 2026, finally finding the peace that often eluded him in life.
Born on October 28, 1968, in Louisville, KY to Charles and Sharon (Graham) Hayes. Schlene faced significant challenges from an early age. Despite these struggles, Schlene possessed a unique sense of humor and a great love of family, friends and God. Those who knew him understood that his life was not an easy journey. God blessed Schlene with many amazing people that always seemed to show up when he needed help.
His family will remember him, not only for his hardships, but for his perseverance. He built on his faith in God over the last several years with Bible study and prayer. He was baptized on April 9, 2026. He left this world with a peace that only God could provide.
Schlene was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hayes, his grandparents, Silas and Judith Graham and Arville and Ruby Hayes and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his mother, Sharon (Pete) Hiemstra; his sisters, Sharon (Ken) Quinn and Judith (Derek) Culver; his uncle Ron (Angela) Graham, aunt Betty Kiper and many cousins.
