Funeral services for Elaine Fuhrer, 94, of Mobridge were held February 26, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Elaine passed away February 21, 2024 at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.
Elaine Miller was born to Charley and Ina Miller of Firesteel on June 1, 1929. She spent her early childhood on the farm with her parents and attended at the Fitzgerald School north of Firesteel. She attended high school in Timber Lake and graduated as salutatorian of her class in 1948. Following graduation, she taught one school term at a country school north of Firesteel.
Elaine was married to Gilbert Fuhrer on June 26, 1949. They made their home in Isabel. They were blessed with the birth of their first daughter, Twila Lynnae, on October 4, 1951. Their second daughter, Sheryl LaRee, on November 4, 1953, and their son, Mark Carl Fuhrer, on April 5, 1960. While they lived in Isabel, she worked for the Isabel Co-op Grocery Store and the Siepman locker plant in Isabel and the Moreau-Grand Electric in Timber Lake.
They moved to Mobridge in 1960 and she worked for First National Bank, Glader Motors, KOLY Radio, Kohlman, Bierschbach and Anderson CPA’s, DeFoort Distributing and Pederson Sales. She retired in 1996 and found it necessary to care full-time for her husband Gilbert, who had Parkinson’s Disease.
Elaine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge and enjoyed being in the group of ladies that knit prayer shawls for shut-ins and those that needed encouragement. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Mobridge.
After the death of her husband in 2009, she spent most of her time working in her yard and with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved attending basketball, volleyball, and the school concerts. She also enjoyed attending exercise classes at the Senior Citizens Center.
Elaine is survived by her son, Mark (Wanda) Fuhrer of Mobridge; grandchildren Stacey Eisemann, Danika Swanson, Landon Swanson, Carly (Trent) Goetz, and Brady Fuhrer; great-grandchildren Miranda (Levi) Jensen, Madison Eisemann, Michael Lilly, Hunter Brick, and Cole Goetz; great-great-grandchild, Jovie Jensen; sons-in-law John Swanson of Sioux Falls and Ken Keller of Mobridge; sister-in-law Joyce Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilbert, two daughters, Twila Swanson and Sheryl Keller, sister Dorothy Miller, and brother, Jerry Miller.
