Carrie Ardis Hump (Ta Sunka Ota Win) was born on February 6, 1975, to Darrell and Alvina Hump, one of five children. She grew up on a ranch southwest of Red Scaffold.
Carrie’s education started at Red Scaffold. She was later transferred to Cheyenne-Eagle Butte and graduated in 1993. Carrie participated in cross country, basketball and track.
Carrie enlisted in the Air Force and graduated from boot camp in August 1994.
When Carrie returned to Cheyenne River, she was hired as the Cell One Representative at the CRST Sales and Service building. In 2003, Carrie met the love of her life, when her future husband, Anthony, was looking for a cell phone.
A year later, on June 5, 2004, Carrie and Anthony were married at the All Saints Catholic Church. Their son Noah arrived in October of 2005 followed by Riley in April 2007 and Rylan in May 2008. Carrie devoted her life to her children. She taught them to be respectful, to reach for their dreams and never quit their pursuit of happiness.
Carrie loved creating arts and crafts, baking, planting flowers, and building her recipe card collection.
During February 2020, Carrie was diagnosed with brain cancer. There was never a cure for the type of cancer she had. Carrie didn’t want people to feel sorry for her, so the decision was made to focus on what the doctors wanted and not on self-pity.
She is survived by her husband Anthony; son Noah; daughters Riley and Rylan; mother Alvina; brothers Dave (Karen) and Lyman Hump; nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John and Bertha Hump; maternal grandparents, David and Dollie Runs After; father Darrell Hump; sister Carmen; brother Ryan Hump; and uncles Duane Hump and Eugene Blue Arm.
