September 17, 1932 – November 8, 2025
Mass of Christian Burial for Al Aberle, 93, of Promise was on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Burial was at St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery in Promise. Al passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Edgewood Healthcare in Pierre.
Aloys Anton Aberle was born on September 17, 1932 to Andrew and Frances (Bollinger) Aberle at Landeau. He attended grade school in Trail City and graduated from Mobridge High School in 1951.
He spent two years in the 3rd Army unit in Georgia from 1953 to 1955. A lifelong rancher he also worked as a sheep shearer and finished working in the late 70’s for Milwaukee Railroad as a fireman.
Al met Janice Ducheneaux in front of the Rexall Drug Store in Mobridge in the fall of 1957. They were married on February 7, 1959. After spending their first few months at Mike Grad’s place at the bottom of Red Top Hill they moved to a sheep camp, north of Promise in April, and then moved to the home place on No Mouth Creek, east of Promise, in the fall of 1959. To this marriage seven children were born and raised. They were married for 62 years before Janice went to the Lord on Oct. 28, 2021.
Athletically gifted, Al finished 2nd at state in the 800 and did well in bull dogging. Hard to keep up with in his early life, he was in good health until the last couple years. He enjoyed cards, especially poker, and was an avid collector of junk. Forever tinkering with old vehicles, he seemed capable of fixing almost anything, but just well enough for it to break down in an inconvenient location. He was always ready with a laugh and an unusual and frequently stubborn opinion. He was a good dad and his family tried to keep him at home until his health became too much of an issue in the last few months of his life.
He is survived by his children: Janal (Jiggs) Biegler of Timber Lake, Don (Rondi) Aberle of Promise, Roger Aberle of Promise, Barbra (Kerry) Droog of Mobridge, Anita (Bruce) Mathews of Ft. Pierre, Robert (Melissa) Aberle of Rapid City, and Margret (Glenn) Malm of Ft.
