Ronald Jayme Takes The Knife

Funeral services for Ronald Takes The Knife, 61, of White Horse were held January 26, 2024 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in White Horse. Burial was in the Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Ronald passed away January 18, 2024, at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City.

Ronald was born January 1, 1963 to Greta Takes the Knife and Ellery Jewett in Eagle Butte. He grew up in White Horse. He enjoyed basketball and became an exceptional player; he was nicknamed Ron Hern after a famous ball player.

He and his childhood friend, Gumbo Lamb, shared their love for the Minnesota Vikings and every time they played football, they would pretend to be the Vikings and mimic Fran Tarkenton. They both graduated from the 8th grade from White Horse Day School.

As he grew older, he spent a lot of time riding and breaking horses. A favorite horse that he broke was a Palomino named Baby Face. His passion for horses and rodeo continued throughout his life. Whenever he could, he would travel to rodeos and watch one of his nephews ride.

to Ronnie, he could fix anything. He worked as a TWEP Deputy for the Cheyenne River Tribal Police Department and later as a dispatcher. He was a truck driver with his friend, Rick Rousseau.

He married Darlene Traversie and from that union came his daughter, Jo Marie Takes the Knife, and his son, Isaac Traversie. He gave them the nicknames House Mouse and General Ike. Later in life, he married Bernadette Use the Knife, and they shared several years together.

Ronnie was predeceased by his mother and father; a sister, Linda Jewett, and grandson Killian Lewis.

He is survived by his children, Jo and Isaac; grandchildren Tahira Takes The Knife, D’Andre Purivs, Ronin Takes The Knife, and Lewis and Elias Little Dog; brothers Gerald Takes the Knife, Harold Frazier, and Carlin Jewett; sister Karen Guerue; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
