Judy A. (Frank) Deems, 80, passed away on May 11, 2026 at The Valley Inn in Mancos, CO after a lengthy illness.

Judy was born in South Dakota and was a ranch girl and member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a very talented artist and seamstress. She created a painting for the Sea of Grass exhibit at the Timber Lake Museum.

She was a substitute elementary teacher and loved little children. She taught art classes in her home, which she enjoyed.

For several years in her early life, she drove a semi tractor trailer over the road solo before there were a lot of female drivers. She was very proud of her accomplishments and her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael Frank and Stella Lindskov.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Berthold (Dan) of Belle Fourche, and grandchildren, Steven Martin of Cortez, CO, Dakota Martin of Nebraska, and Danyell McKinney of South Dakota; several siblings including Dennis Lindskov of Belle Fourche; several great-grandchildren, friends, and her ex-husband and caregiver, Greg Deems, of Cortez.

Arrangements are being made through Ertel Funeral Home and graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 23 at Arriola Cemetery and conducted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

In lieu of flowers she requested donations to St. Jude’s Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospital, or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
