Wendy died on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at her home in rural Eagle Butte.

Wendy was born on March 25, 1963, in Gettysburg to Wendell and Sharon Winkler. She grew up alongside her older brother, Richard Winkler.

She attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1981. Her father passed away in 1979.

Wendy attended Western Dakota Tech in Sturgis and received an associate’s degree that would start her career working for the federal government in Huron. She became the administrative assistant of the State Director of the FMHA.

She married Charles Louis Shupick on January 3, 1991. The temperature was -20F and people left their cars running during the ceremony. Together they built a home grounded in faith, love, and service to one another.

Wendy was a proud and loving mother to Matthew Louis and Macy Kaye. Becoming grandmother to Jeanne Shupick brought her immense joy, and she cherished that role as one of God’s greatest gifts.

Wendy dedicated more than 32 years of faithful service to Moreau-Grand Electric.

Wendy found joy in the simple gifts of life that reflected God’s creation. She loved spending time with her cats, playing the piano, shooting pool, and bowling with her purple bowling ball. She would never miss the opportunity to tell you that she hit the eight ball on the break in Wyoming. She won numerous trophies in her younger days.

She tended her garden with care, and found peace beside the water while catching catfish, but also screaming “CHARLIE, I GOT ONE!”

Wendy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Charles Louis Shupick; her son, Matthew Louis (Julie) Shupick; granddaughter Jeanne Autumn Shupick; and daughter Macy Kaye (Damian) Shupick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Richard Winkler; and her grandparents and great-grandparents.

Wendy’s life was a testament to faith, love, and resilience. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her quiet strength in life’s challenges, and her enduring spirit. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to shine in her husband, children, and granddaughter.
