Funeral services for Shace Wayne Looking Horse, 31, of Eagle Butte were held August 13, 2025, at the CRST Bingo Hall. Burial followed at the Looking Horse Family Cemetery. Shace passed away on August 5, 2025, near Philip.
Shace Wayne Looking Horse, (Tatanka Iyankala “Running Buffalo”) began his life on May 13, 1994. He grew up in Green Grass along the Moreau River. He attended Head Start and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School, where he graduated in 2014. Shace then attended Oglala Lakota College for a year and talked of returning to finish.
Shace enjoyed camping with his family, friends, and relatives and always looked forward to the annual family trip to Gray Horn Butte. He loved spending his time with his nieces and nephews, he was a good uncle and never passed up an opportunity to make them laugh.
Shace will be remembered not only for his caring nature and ever-ready smile, but also for the meaningful words he shared recently with family and friends: “A friendly reminder—always hug and tell them you love them. You never know when that’s the last time you hug them, and the last ‘I love you’ you ever get. Until we meet again.”
Holding him in their hearts are his mom Gladys; sisters Jonni Guerrero-Arpan, Jimi Blue Coat and Alex Looking Horse; brothers Craig Clown, Edward Brave Thunder, and Dewey Looking Horse; nieces Carmen Brave Thunder, Chaela Brave Thunder-Carranza, Maya Looking Horse, Amanda Greaves, and Rozzy White Bull; nephews Kamden Clown, Kase Lawrence, Mason Arpan, Khaos Looking Horse, Zayden Looking Horse, and Ezra Looking Horse; hunka sisters Catherine Lawrence, Charlene Hollow Horn Bear, Michelle Moran-Walking Elk, Michelle Santos-West, and Feather Stranger ;hunka brother Juan Garrett; and his many friends, too numerous to mention.
Those who embraced him in the star nation are his Dad, John Moon; his brothers Josh “Moon” Guerrero and TJ Looking Horse; uncle Steven Wayne; grandparents; and his best friends, Jasmine Phillips and Courtney Silk.
