Ila “Sue” Barnica passed away on March 20, 2025 at the age of 85. She was better known as Sue to friends and family.
Visitation is Friday, March 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Chapel of Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Sue was born to Roy and Edith (Wilson) Trent on March 5, 1940, at Atoka, OK. She graduated from Atoka High School and then went to Southeastern State University, before coming to South Dakota to her parents’ ranch. Once in South Dakota, she met her beloved husband, Larry Barnica, and they were married on October 17, 1964.
Sue loved to tend to her flowers and keep up the yard. Her family was honored to have the chance to be with her, and have her as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and aunt.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband Larry Barnica; son Micky Barnica; brother Troy Trent; and sisters Martha Trent Rowten and Lena Trent Clancy.
She is survived by her daughters Laura Sue (Kenny) Gill and Cindy Sue (Bret) Pederson; grandchildren Isabella and Jamie Gill; Sarah and Seth Barnica; and GP, JB, CL (Cora), JW, and JC Pederson.
