James Holloway

James “Jim” Holloway, 85, of Faith passed away at his home on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Faith Community Center. Pastor Harold Delbridge officiated. Burial was in the Faith City Cemetery.

Jim was born on May 20, 1939, to Jim and Phyllis (Ehli) Holloway in a pasture about 5 miles south of Ridgeview, in a 1939 Chrysler Coupe.

Jim grew up around Eagle Butte helping his family on the ranch before he left home in 1954 to work for his uncles John and Glen “Shorty” Holloway. He then worked on a few ranches before moving to San Diego, CA to work for Daily Enterprises. Jim returned to South Dakota, where he got married and his first daughter, Deborah, was born in 1960. Later that year, he was hired as a brand May 20, 1939 – February 17, 2025

inspector for the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, kickstarting his 61-year career. His son, John, was born in 1964. He moved to Faith in 1969 to work at the sale barn. In 1974, Jim married Helen “Ivy” Fairbanks and they had a daughter, Glenda.

Jim enjoyed going dancing with Ivy, playing Whist, and, most of all, his work. He worked for Barber Freight, Tri-County Water, and Farmers State Bank. He volunteered in the ambulance and fire departments, was the mayor of Faith, and was a dedicated Mason and Shriner. In 2021, he retired.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Phyllis Holloway; siblings Janice Halloran and Russel “Rusty” Holloway.

He is survived by his wife, Iverne; children Deb French, John (Sylvana) Holloway, and Glenda Holloway; siblings Dan Holloway and Don Holloway; grandchildren Chance (Larimie) Escott, Duce Escott, and Jayce Pesicka; and great-grandchildren, Colson and Lorraine Escott.

Evanson-Jenson Funeral Home of Faith was in charge of arrangements.
