Jimmy (Jim) Leo Shadduck was born in Mobridge, to James and Madeline (Springer) Shadduck on July 22, 1943. His father died when Jim was only 2. They lived in Timber Lake at the time. After his mother remarried, they moved to several towns in North Dakota, then settled in Mobridge. During his young life he had various jobs such as working for the town veterinarian, digging wells and road construction on Interstate 90 in the Black Hills. Later, Jim managed a local bar, The Gay Time, frying up their famous hamburgers. There he met the love of his life, Shirley Huber. They tied the knot in Leola at St. James Lutheran Church on January 12, 1965. A daughter, Julie, was born that same year. Jim and family moved to Seattle for a year, then to Leola, before moving back to Mobridge. In 1970 their son, Jeffrey, was born. That same year Jim started working for Coca-Cola. Jim was the “Coke man” for 18 years. Due to an injury his work took a new direction and he began working for Freidel’s Music and Recreation as a video lottery technician. As with Coke, he made many friends through his work. Jim had the gift of gab and always had a story to tell. Unfortunately a genetic disease, HHT, was too much of a struggle to contend with and he was forced to retire in 2020.

Jim kept busy with his many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, making and regripping golf clubs for others, yard work, woodworking, sightseeing, and taking photographs, always including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jim entered the Aberdeen Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in November 2023. He moved to the Walworth County Care Center in July 2024, where he lived until his passing.

Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley; children Julie and Jeff Shadduck of Mobridge; grandchildren Amanda (Cody) Johnson, Bryce Raba, and Nicholas Shadduck, all of Mobridge, Isaiah Shadduck (Aurianna Stickland) of Aberdeen; step-grandchildren Danielle Gusman (Brad Iron) of Mobridge and Mackenzie Thomas (Aaron Hanley) of Bismarck, ND; great-grandchildren Emma and Eli Johnson, Cooper Shadduck, Preston and Paislee Hettich, and Rebel Iron, and Rylee, Payton, and Ashton Hanley; siblings Barb Hill, Wesley (Melinda) Schaefer, Gail (Jerry) Brooks, Nick (Monica) Schaefer, and Karen Nelson; brother-in-law Dennis (Ione) Huber; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Shadduck and Madeline Schaefer; grandson Matthew Shadduck; sister Joan and her husband Bob Hintz; half-sister Phyllis Schmidt and LaDonna and her husband Gary Warder; in-laws Ed and Alvina Huber; brothers-inlaw Ray Nelson and Ralph Hill; and sister-in-law Glenda and her husband Chet Salzer.
