Robert “Bob” McGuire, 90, of Sioux Falls passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. CT, Thursday, December 5, 2024, at St. Michael Parish in Sioux Falls.
Miller Funeral Home West Side Chapel in Sioux Falls is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to St. Michael Parish.
Robert Patrick McGuire, son of James and Laura (Newcomb) McGuire, was born April 22, 1934 in Timber Lake.
He graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1952. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On July 3, 1954 Bob married the love of his life, Karen Gill, and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Their love brought them eight beautiful children. Their large family became even larger as they welcomed grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild to their Irish clan. Bob was very proud to achieve the title of great-greatgrandfather in 2023.
During Bob’s working years he owned Sioux Sound for over 20 years and McGuire Electric for seven years before retiring in 2001.
Bob was a devout Catholic all his life. He was a former member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and a current member of St. Michael Parish.
Bob and Karen shared a love for hospitality as their home was always open to guests. Bob cared deeply for his community and made an effort to volunteer locally, such as courtesy driving at the VA Hospital, delivering for Meals on Wheels, and being involved with Cursillo. In his spare time Bob enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially loved outplaying his opponents in cards and teasing them when they lost.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Laura; wife Karen; infant daughter Robin; daughter Renee (Wes) Kreun; grandson Michael McCauley; brothers Merlin, Tom, and Ed McGuire; and sisters Cay Coyle and Margaret Morris.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Deby McCauley of Sun City, AZ, Keith (Deb) McGuire and Jim (Dianne) McGuire of Sioux Falls, Kim (Alan) Hochhalter of Fargo, ND, Daneen (Kevin) Curley and LeAnn McGuire of Sioux Falls; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; and a host of extended family.
