Adeline (VanDusen) Kinney

March 30, 1936 – October 11, 2024

Adeline Joyce Kinney, 88, of Rapid City gained her wings Friday, October 11, 2024.

A funeral service was held Monday, October 21 at the Osheim/Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City with burial at Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis.

Adeline Honeyman was born March 20, 1936 in Gopher (near Glad Valley) on the family farm to Arthur and Amelia (Kern) Honeyman. She began her life on the family farm approximately 21 miles northwest of Isabel. She attended the Kern School.

Her father would take her to school in a horse and buggy until she was able to ride a horse. She graduated in 1958, via a GED, while she remained working on the family farm until she met James Van Dusen Sr. They were married May 6, 1959 in Baker, MT. They lived in Elgin, ND until they settled in Timber Lake in 1960. In 1974 she lost her husband, James, to cancer.

In 1964, she began work at the Timber Lake Post Office then with the Timber Lake school system until 1980. In 1981, she married Jesse Kinney of McIntosh. They resided at Hump Creek Ranch located five miles southwest of McIntosh. In 1997 they retired to Spearfish.

She was very active as a member of United Church of Christ in Spearfish. In 2012, she lost Jesse.

Adeline enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, fishing, quilting, playing the harmonica, dancing and ranch life. She enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Adeline is survived by her children, Vanette Van Dusen of Cape Coral, FL and James Van Dusen Jr. of McLaughlin; siblings Lawrence “Larry” Honeyman of Hettinger, ND and Arthur Honeyman Jr, of Harrison, AR.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Elmer and Gordon Honeyman; sister Mabel (Honeyman) Tichi; Steven Honeyman; and infant daughter of Lawrence and Mina Honeyman.
