Funeral services for Mavis Little Eagle, 78, of Bullhead were held September 18, 2024, at the Mavis Little Eagle residence. Burial was at the Pine Little Eagle Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Mavis passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Monument Health in Rapid City.
Mavis Pearl Little Eagle was born on December 7, 1945, in Bullhead to Isaac Red Bear and Grace Brown Otter. She grew up in Bullhead and attended Bullhead Day School until 8th grade and then went to stay in the dorms and finish school until 10th grade at Ft. Yates (ND) High School. She finished her GED at Standing Rock College in 1972.
She moved to Denver, CO in 1970-1971. She lived in Isabel from 1971 to 1984. She lived in Springfield in 1986, Solen, ND from 1987 to 1988 and then moved back to Rock Creek, where she worked as a cook in McLaughlin and Rock Creek.
She met Reno C. Mutchler and they married in 1963 and in this union, they had Wilbur, Melbert “Bill”, Brenda, William “Ernie” and Adrienne.
After retiring she loved spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mavis is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Tim) Harper and Adrienne Mutchler; her sons, Melbert (Melinda) Mutchler and William (Carletta) Mutchler; son Matthew who was adopted out after birth; hunka son Ronald Thomey from Michigan; brother Leon Brown Otter Sr.; cousins Elizabeth, Pearl, and Richard Charging Eagle; Grandma Anna Mae Steele, 23 grandchildren, and 52 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Isaac Red Bear and Grace (Steele) Brown Otter; siblings Oley Red Bear Sr., Rolland Brown Otter Sr., Fern Lutz, and Milton Brown Otter; children Paula Big Horn and Wilbur Mutchler; grandson Heype Weasel; late husband Oley Little Eagle; and Reno Mutchler.
