Louis Keller

May 3, 1936 – August 26, 2024

Funeral services for Louis Keller, 88, were held on Saturday August 31, 2024, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Father Brian Lane and Deacon Jim Hulm officiated under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Louie passed away on August 26, 2024, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.

Louie was born on May 3, 1936, at Glencross to Louis J. and Elizabeth (Schumacher) Keller. He moved to a farm northwest of Firesteel with his parents at a very young age and attended the Firesteel School through the 8th grade. He attended his first year of high school in Mobridge while living with an aunt. At the age of 15 he moved to Sidney, NE where he lived with an aunt and uncle and worked at a small appliance repair business.

Louie entered the U.S. Navy in 1959 where he received his GED and was honorably discharged in January 1963. He then returned to Sidney and started selling insurance.

On June 16, 1964, he was united in marriage to Helen Hulm. Their first two sons, Louis and Gary, were born while they were living in Nebraska. In 1972 Louie, Helen and boys moved to a farm west of Timber Lake where Helen was raised. When Helen’s parents retired, they took over the farming business. Their third son, Bruce, was born in 1977.

Louie’s favorite pastime was hunting and fishing, especially with his sons. He also enjoyed playing the card game pinochle. Many family and friends enjoyed his wonderful cooking skills.

He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, the Knights of Columbus, and the Dewey County Conservation District.

Surviving Louie are his wife Helen of 60 years; sons Louis, Gary (Sheila) and Bruce (Jennifer); grandchildren Jacob, Jess, Lauren, Paige, Tessa, Drew and Emma; brothers Joe (Bert), Fred (Leona), Tom (Joley), Jim, and Gene; sisters Delphine (Gary) Steuck, Mary (Ed) Schweitzer and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Louis are his parents, brother George, nephew David and niece Elizabeth.
