Nina Ducheneaux Hanson

September 20, 1961 – June 18, 2024

Funeral services for Nina (Ducheneaux) Hanson, 62, of Mobridge were held Friday, June 28, 2024, at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial was at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Promise under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Nina Marie Ducheneaux Hanson gained her angel wings on June 18, 2024, at Mobridge Regional Hospital after her battle with cancer.

Nina was born September 20, 1961, to Maynard James Ducheneaux and Sharon Bollinger Ducheneaux. She attended 4th grade – 8th grade in Trail City and attended Timber Lake High School, graduating in 1979. She then attended South Dakota State College of Nursing in 1981.

Nina and Kim Seidel packed their bags and were moving to Corpus Christi, TX and on the way there, they stopped in Valentine, NE where she met Tony Hanson. She decided to stay in Valentine. Tony and Nina were married in 1986 and were married for 17 years. During this marriage, they adopted three beautiful children: Alex Hanson, Michael Hanson and Kerian Hanson.

Nina worked at the Farm Service Agency for 15 years. She left that job in 2014 and moved to Mobridge. During this time, she worked at Great Plains Restaurant, Leonard Studio, Mobridge Sale Barn, PaylessFoods, KTs Fireside, and Home Health Services as a dietary cook at the Mobridge Senior Citizens Center. Nina worked until she could no longer, she always had to keep busy.

Nina had a love for puzzles, reading books, playing computer games, and watching talk shows and court shows. Nina’s favorite snack was Diet Coke and FunYuns which she enjoyed until the very end.

Nina was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in April 2024.

Nina is preceded in death by her parents, sister Deanna Ducheneaux and a great-niece, Madison Gill.

Nina is survived by her children; Alex Hanson of Mobridge, Kerian Hanson (Joe Lance) and Michael Hanson of Valentine, NE; her grandchildren: Gabriel Hanson, Giselle Hanson, Samuel Lance, Sequioa Lance, and Seneca Lance; her sister Shirley Stayton of Florence; brother Ronnie Ducheneaux of Mobridge; nieces Heather Caplinn, Shantel Ducheneaux, and Cheyenne Ducheneaux (Josh Prasek), all of Mobridge, and Jessica Powers (Josh) of Watertown; nephews Joshua Stayton (Stacy) of Texas and Bodey Ducheneaux (Nicolette Longbrake) of Mobridge; sister-in-law Julie Mosset (Kris Mosset) of Mobridge; great-nephews Mattaius Caplinn of Mobridge and Shooter Stayton of Texas; great-nieces Baylee Elsinger of Watertown, Eleanore Prasek of Mobridge, and Fallon Stayton of Texas; her cat, Nickie; and special friends, Kelly, Amanda, Gavin, Tatum and Grayson Silbernagel, Darla Simon and Nancy Hepper; and mand bonus children from her children’s friends who also called her “Mom.”
