Eagle Butte man killed in alleged hostage situation

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), is investigating a hostage situation and officer-involved shooting that occurred last Tuesday night, Aug. 5, in Haakon County resulting in the death of an Eagle Butte man.

Hwy. 271 northeast of Java closed for bridge repair work

S.D. Highway 271 northeast of Java was closed on Monday, Aug. 11, and will remain closed while Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad repairs the railroad bridge over the highway. Weather dependent, the work is expected to be complete by Thursday, Aug. 21.

BIA: Tribal radio funding expected by early 2026

Last week, Jared Hollenbeck and Kyrie Lemburg spent a few days at the Sturgis Rally. On Saturday, Kyrie attended the anniversary celebration for Bob and Marie Berndt in Timber Lake. On Sunday, Mason and Beth Hollenbeck traveled to Promise to visit Kim Hollenbeck.
