Local author wins awards

Local author Johny Weber recently won awards for two of her novels.Mountain Refuge, the first book in the Mountain series, was entered in the Readers’ Favorite International Book Award Contest in the Fiction – Western category. They recognized five different novels.

Eligible families may apply for free or reduced price school meals

Families who may qualify for free or reduced-price meals in school year 2025-26 can submit a free and reduced-price meal application. Schools will take applications and use family income to qualify students for the program.

Dewey Co. 4-H members exhibit projects at the South Dakota State Fair

Dewey County 4-H members exhibited their 4-H projects at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron. Projects were judged and displayed at this year’s State Fair from August 27–Sept. 1. Each 4-H member was allowed to enter up to six static exhibits at the State Fair.

Gabriella DeLaRosa earned four awards at the 2025 South Dakota State Fair 4H Division Display Exhibit during the State Fair Aug. 27-Sept. 1 in Huron.

Labor Day Wacipi ...

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe hosted its annual Labor Day Wacipi Aug. 30-Sept. 1 in conjunction with the CRST Fair and Rodeo. After a rainy start, organizers moved the event indoors to the C-EB School gymnasium. The Pow Wow returned the new arbor on Labor Day.

Dewey Co. man facing first degree murder charge in Iowa

A Dewey County man has been charged in the death of a man whose body was found Aug. 26, in an alley in downtown Spencer, IA.
