Cattlemen’s Foundation offers scholarship

Students enrolled in any postsecondary institution in South Dakota are eligible to apply for the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation scholarship program.The scholarship application is open now and closes Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 11:59PM CT.Students can apply by visiting SDCFScholarships.com.
These students are this year’s Dupree High School juniors that earned their letterman jackets through the 3-2-1 DHS Booster Club program. To earn a 3-2-1 program jacket, a student must be in 3 sports at DHS for the first 2 years of high school at Dupree School and this must be done by the 1 student. Historic A.H. Brown Library awarded preservation grant

A historic preservation project at the A.H. Brown Library in Mobridge has been awarded a matching funds grant from the South Dakota State Historical Society.The library, built in 1929-30, received $15,000 to assist in repointing the brickwork.

Day reappointed as presiding judge over Fourth District Court

Chief Justice Steven R. Jensen announced Tuesday, Jan. 7, the reappointment of the Honorable Michael W. Day, Belle Fourche, as Presiding Judge for the Fourth Judicial Circuit.The Fourth Judicial Circuit consists of Butte, Corson, Dewey, Harding, Lawrence, Meade, Perkins and Ziebach counties.
A 27-foot x 25-foot addition to the Dewey County Courthouse in Timber Lake will provide fireproof space for county records. Estimated cost of the project is around $300,000 with work scheduled to get underway this spring. See bid notice on Page 12.

2025 kicks off with changes and progress

Retailers may pay more unemployment assistance taxes

Legislators could soon be asked to impose a higher tax on employers to cover the administrative expenses of the state’s unemployment assistance program, but a lower tax to fund the program’s payouts to unemployed people, sparking concerns of an unequal impact on businesses.
