A day free of wind was welcomed by many in the area this past Saturday. Bill and Laurie Bickel’s daughter, Lynsey McGiver, gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday night.

The Memory Tree

The American Legion and Auxiliary of Timber Lake is displaying a Memory Tree for the “Fallen Soldiers.” The Memory Tree, decorated with flags and photos and information about local service members who died while serving, can be seen at the Grounded Coffee Shop (in The Junction). The tree displays some local fallen soldiers from past wars, and can be viewed from until May 24, during the Grounded Coffee Shops hours, Wednesday through Friday, 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. A drop box is next to the tree, for any additional names, pictures, etc. that anyone would like added to the tree.

DHS FFA team competes in Rapid City

For the first time, the Dupree High School FFA sent a group to compete in the Envirothon Contest held in Rapid City at the Game, Fish, & Parks Outdoor Campus. (L-R) Bobby Brewer, Case DePoy, Matthew Lemke, Wambli Quintana, and Wyatt Lemke participated. Although it was all new to them, the students placed 11th out of 18 teams. The competition tests knowledge in Aquatic, Wildlife, Soils/Land, Forestry, etc. A bonus to the day was that three baby ducks were born while they were there and they got to see them swim for the first time. Doug Hofer was their advisor.

Kindergartners recite Pledge of Allegiance

Becky Booth (BACK, LEFT), representing the American Legion Auxiliary Units from Timber Lake and Isabel, recently visited the Kindergarten class at the Timber Lake Elementary School to hear them recite the Pledge of Allegiance and explain the importance and significance of the pledge. Each student received an American flag from American Legion Auxiliary 83 in Timber Lake and Auxiliary 120 in Isabel.
