After a visit about aches, pains and various medical issues, a patient was commenting on getting older. Similar to other patients, I expected him to say something like, “It’s no fun getting older.” To my surprise, the patient said, “I’m 85. That means I have a lot to be thankful for.

Pandemic Logic

Since the start of the pandemic, I haven’t had a head cold, a direct result (a causation) from millions of people wearing masks, not to prevent colds, but to ward off a deadlier virus. In an effort to curtail one phenomenon, another was slowed.

This past weekend I played one of the biggest shows of my career as a musician. It was exhilarating, nervewracking, wonderful, and exhausting. Months of preparation, days of travel, hours of rehearsal distilled to 90 minutes on stage that passed in a blur.

Next Monday is Labor Day, time to pause for a day of rest - if you can - and to say a word of THANKS to the laborers of the world. Thanks to the people who drive the trucks, bake the bread and harvest the crops. Thanks to those who teach, who build, who heal.

The kids and I are back on the road again this week. I am thankful to have these adventures with them, this chance to watch them discover the world, even when it gets challenging.

A note to those who want to change the world

Everyone deep down wants to do something that will have an immediate and meaningful impact on themselves and the world around them. I have a few suggestions. You really don’t really need to cure cancer… there are ways to change the world which are infinitely more achievable than that.
