A Cow’s Life

If it weren’t for the last few steps it wouldn’t be so bad to be a cow. Whenever I drive by cows in a field, they are lounging around on soft grass, more or less worried about nothing. A light wind gently brushes their hair, and the warm summer sun around them looks pretty good from my perspective.

It’s hard not to get nostalgic this time of year. Beneath the high heat, there’s something new lingering on the edges. The back-to-school vibes abound. The earth still smells of baking bread at midday, but now the fields carry the unmistakable scent of curing leaves.

A flat tire and seized lug nuts north of Isabel Wednesday mid-afternoon severely altered our travel plans to Kool Deadwood Nites. It all started with a young Good Samaritan from Rapid City who stopped to help, to no avail…. He gave us a ride to Isabel (“….I won’t leave you stranded…”).

We just want to say thank you for the great celebration of the Days of 1910. Everyone does an outstanding job and we are especially glad to see so many young people doing their part to make the weekend successful.

Stray Thoughts: Leveling Up

To pass any class, you must at minimum do the following: show up, do the minimum, and don’t interfere with others. But if you want to do better than simply pass the class, there are a few more things you can do to guarantee the level at which you will succeed.

Back to School

Here it is, August. Summer has flown by and already there is Halloween candy roaming the shelves of Walmart. For most of us, August also brings the normal adjustment of transitioning back to the school year.

Stray Thoughts: A note to begin the school year

Students… Every year begins the same way. Summer is ending and school is starting. You are as ready as you can be for a change. New people, new situations, new experiences. But you always wonder about the same old things. Will my same old friends be back again this year?
