Sales up in first half of year

Data from the S.D. Dept. of Revenue show that, according to sales tax reports filed by businesses, taxable sales in Dewey, Ziebach and Corson counties were up in the first six months of 2020, compared to sales in the same months in 2019. These are sales subject to the state/reservation tax of 4.5% but the city sales taxes (additional 1% or 2%) are not included here. Non-taxable sales (to governments, schools and hospitals) are not included. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe receives 81% of the 4.5% sales and use tax collected in Dewey and Ziebach counties and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe receives 75% of the tax collected on the South Dakota side of Standing Rock (Corson County).
